Why was this increase needed?

The District infrastructure has matured over time, and requires ongoing repair and maintenance. Additionally, rehabilitation and repair projects over the last few years caused the District to use operational reserves to fund and cover these costs. The District performed a rate study and a long-term financial projection analysis which led the Board to the decision to raise the water and sewer rates. It has been decades since a rate increase of this magnitude has been implemented in FBMUD 23. The revenues generated from this new rate structure will help fund both preventive maintenance and timely system repairs.

Despite the increase, residents of FBCMUD 23 are still paying lower water rates than most of the neighboring Districts. As District residents themselves, it is the goal of the Board of Directors to keep water and tax rates manageable for everyone in the community, while maintaining the infrastructure and amenities that make FBCMUD 23 a desirable place to live.
